Want to upgrade your 'Windows XP Home' to 'Windows XP Professional' without spending a penny, then this trick is will fall in your interest. It is pretty simple to do since it requires some changes in registry & some files of 'Windows Xp Service Pack-2'.
    Upgrading Windows XP Home to Professional

    It is not possible to upgrade without change in your windows file since no changes will be seen. So you do require a windows CD, here it is what you asked for:

    • Copy root directory & i386 of your Windows installation disc to your harddisk.
    • Extract Boot sector of Windows Installation disc.
    • Change 2 Bytes in i386\Setupreg.hiv, as
      • Open Regedit
      • Goto:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
      • Now Goto:
        Menu: File -> Load Structure -> i386\Setupreg.hiv
      • Assign a name to Imported structure, say 'Homekey'.
      • Goto:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Homekey\ControlSet001\Services\setupdd
      • Edit the binary key "Default".
        "01” to “00”
        “02” to “00”
      • Highlight “Homekey” and select menu: File -> unload structure
    • Burn your new XP Pro CD
    • Install WindowsXP as usual. Your XP Home Key will work.
